Remove an image background

Google Slides cannot remove a background at all, and PowerPoint only offers it on Windows. Click the colour you want gone, tune how far the selection spreads, and download a transparent PNG ready to drop on a slide. Best on logos, screenshots, clip art and flat backdrops.

How to use it

  1. 01/03

    Open your picture

    Drop in a PNG, JPG or WebP. It is drawn to a canvas at full resolution.

  2. 02/03

    Click the background

    Click the colour you want removed. Every pixel close enough to it becomes transparent.

  3. 03/03

    Tune, then download

    Raise tolerance to catch gradients and compression noise; add feathering to soften the cut edge.

    Photographs with a busy background will not cut cleanly here — that needs subject detection, not colour matching.

Good to know

Can Google Slides remove an image background?

No. Format options > Adjustments changes transparency for the whole image, not the background alone. Cutting the background out first — here or anywhere else — and inserting a transparent PNG is the only route.

How does PowerPoint do it?

Select the picture, then Picture Format > Remove Background, and mark areas to keep or drop. It is Windows-only; PowerPoint for Mac and the web both hide it.

Why does my cut-out have a halo?

JPEG compression smears colour around hard edges, so pixels near the boundary sit between subject and background. Raising tolerance slightly and adding one or two pixels of feathering usually clears it.
