Word count for Google Slides and PowerPoint

Google Slides has never shipped a word count and PowerPoint buries one in file properties. Drop a .pptx here for a per-slide breakdown, or paste text from any deck. Speaker notes are counted separately, and you get the speaking time most people actually came for.

    For a Google Slides deck, use File > Download > Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx), then drop that file here.

Good to know

Does Google Slides have a word count?

No. Google Docs has Tools > Word count; Slides has never had the equivalent. The workarounds are copying every slide into a Doc, or dropping the downloaded .pptx into a counter like this one.

How long will my presentation take?

A prepared talk runs 130–150 words a minute, and the estimate uses 140. Slides carrying only a few words each will run longer than the count suggests, because the time goes into what you say around them.

How many words belong on one slide?

Under about 40 if the audience reads it while you talk. Past that they read instead of listening, which is the mechanism behind every complaint about death by PowerPoint.
